Andrew Abbott

Artist Statement
I think I am an artist partially for the reason that I have some trouble expressing what my ideas are verbally. An artist paints or writes or sculpts to express something. That being said I hope my art can speak to viewers and express “something” and not rely at all upon the written word. Although there are some written words integrated into my art so I guess I am contradicting myself a little bit. My paintings are made mostly of recycled materials. I use scraps of paper I find on the street in the hope that I will transfer something of my experience on that street to my painting, be it a partial shape or a hint of texture it may or may not play a part in the final outcome of the image. I utilize collage technique in most of my paintings, but I consider them paintings because most of the time the underlying paper gets completely covered with paint. These images are never planned, but I strive to make them look planned.

Andrew Abbott is 31 years old. He was born in Halifax Nova Scotia, but grew up mostly in Boone North Carolina. He was an “art” major at U.N.C. Wilmington where he failed beginning ceramics twice. After college he joined the army for some reason, but got kicked out after about four years due to a “pattern of misconduct.” Since then he has committed himself to being an artist “professionally.” It is unknown where Andrew Abbott currently resides at this time, probably Maine. His work can be found at “Bambi Projects” in Philadelphia, “Gallery Susan Alexander” in California, and "Art Modern Gallery" in Florida.
